PHA
Beyond Plastic™ leads in PHA science with in-house labs and proprietary technology that take PHA from concept to commercial scale. Our patented formulas and equipment modifications set new standards for sustainable plastics.
What is PHA?
PHAs are bio-based polyesters produced via microbial fermentation from renewable feedstocks. Fully biodegradable and compostable in soil, freshwater, marine, and industrial environments, PHAs offer a true circular alternative to fossil plastics.
PHA in NaturE
Naturally produced by microbes as an energy reserve, PHAs can be broken down by environmental bacteria—where they return to nature. Eliminating the persistent microplastics and toxic bioproducts leached from plastic waste.
The Challenge & Our Solution
Historically, PHAs have been costly and difficult to process at scale. Beyond Plastic™ compounds substantially improve processing speed, thermal stability, and rheology—matching traditional plastics’ efficiency while maintaining certified compostability. Our PHA compounds are designed for long shelf-stability and rapid compostability.
End-of-Life Advantage
PHA biodegrades naturally in both home and industrial compost. While we don’t condone littering, its ability to break down in soil, freshwater, and marine environments offers a last line of defense against pollution, something that other bioplastics don’t have. Beyond Plastic™ is also advancing sorting and recycling technologies to help integrate PHA into existing waste systems and maximize sustainability.
